My very first day of farm work. WHEW! Hard stuff let me tell you! But so great for me right now! It was about time I remembered how many muscles I have in my butt, my arms, my legs, etc. Again the weather turned out beautiful, sun-shiny all day long. I woke around 7:15 and got to work by 8. My hours are 8-5 and lunch from 12-1. Super stoked it’s not too early! Early this morning I bagged, weighed and tied up parsnips and carrots for the market deliveries. Then we moved out to the fields and began cutting and bagging bunches of celery that was also going to market. And then began the weeding. LOTS of weeding today!

It was hard on my knees and back but it was actually really nice to talk to the other workers while doing mindless work. Gage quickly learned that I’m a gullible person and convinced me that the windmill propellers, which we were working right next to, sometimes fly off and hit things. I believed him all day until I just now realized he was probably lying and asked him. – He admitted! Geez! The windmill does get really loud when a breeze comes though.

Daniel, from Brasil moved to Ireland 3 years ago with his family because he couldn’t find work at home. He now works here at the farm and is a cook at a local pub. He starts cooking school at the end of the month as well. Daniel, who is still learning English, asked me today, “Why would, you, a girl, want to do such hard work? This work is so hard!” I told him I needed to remember my body again. Gregor and Ula are from Poland and also work here on the farm. I believe Ula is a teacher and will be going back to that when school begins, but I may be wrong on that. At the end of the hours and hours of weeding, I went to the nursery with Gage so he could teach me how to plant the seeds. It’s pretty cool. That has been my favorite part so far. There are so many baby plants in there!!!

Padraig, pronounced Pah-ray, and Una worked in the fields with us for a bit weeding so it was nice to talk to them and get to know them a bit as well. Padraig got his bachelors in humanities then went traveling for a few years and went back for horticulture. The land that the farm is on is his parents, he grew up in the house they still live in now, which is right next door. Una and Padraig only buy and eat almost ALL organic and natural, the food is absolutely delicious here, so fresh and fulfilling. They fully stock our cabin with food and drink, including fresh, organic apple juice and fresh baked bread!

So, it’s been fun! I finally figured out how to use this phone too, probably because I got some sleep finally! So, my number is 085-703-0573, I don’t know the numbers that have to go before those, but I’m sure it’s online somewhere. Maybe 100, then the number. Because I have to enter 00, for the US and 1 for Ireland, so maybe it’s opposite for you guys.
